At St Teresa’s, we recognise the important role our families have as first educators to our children. Families are actively engaged in the prayer life of our school and parish and contribute to Catholic life and religious education through homework projects, liturgies, Mass, concerts, carol services, nativities and fundraising events.

As part of our home links engagement, each class has a special prayer bag that children take home in turn, giving every family the opportunity to share in prayer together. Our family prayer bags are a creative and meaningful way for our school community to nurture faith at home and make prayer a regular, shared experience.

Each class prayer bag contains prayer cloths in the appropriate liturgical colours, a candle, a holding cross, copies of our school prayers, and other relevant prayer materials depending on the season of the Church year. A prayer journal is also included, allowing children to reflect on their family’s experience of prayer and share their thoughts, drawings, or prayers in their own words.

When the bags are returned to school, the children’s reflections are celebrated and shared with their class teacher and peers. We love to see the sacred spaces children create in their homes and the thoughtful, creative ways they engage in prayer with their families.

Through this practice, we aim to strengthen the link between home and school, helping children to see prayer as a natural and joyful part of daily life and to grow in their faith as part of our Catholic community.
