In both Key Stages the 5 core subjects of RE, English, Maths, Science and ICT are taught as stand-alone subjects along with PE and French. The foundation subjects of: History, Geography, Art, Music, and Design and technology are incorporated within the creative curriculum as part of cross curricular themes.

The school week is divided to devote an appropriate amount of time to each area of learning. Most time is given to the core subjects. The foundation subjects receive a proportion of the remaining time where teaching is organised into a creative curriculum.

Creative Curriculum

A two year rolling programme of themes are planned and organised within each department. This makes the widest use of teacher expertise and resources. The result is a fun, exciting curriculum where many of the skills acquired in the core subjects especially English are planned for the children to use and apply in a meaningful way.Activities relating to each specific topic are planned by each class teacher in conjunction with the National Curriculum documents and links with core curriculum areas such as Mathematics, Science and Literacy are made where relevant. Classroom and school displays reflect these topic themes as well as other core subject activities. St.Teresa’s has been awarded Arts Mark at the gold level in recognition of our excellent provision for the arts.
