Sports Round Up 2015-16

2015-16 has been an incredibly successful year for our sports teams at St Teresa’s! We have been lucky to enter a myriad of competitions this year; our children are clearly very talented.

Football- MIDLANDS CHAMPIONS & NATIONAL RUNNERS UP- What a fantastic year for our footballers!! Both our Boys’ and Girls’ teams have achieved beyond what we have ever achieved before. Both teams became City Champions and competed in the County Finals at St. George's Park. Our boys became County Champions and went on to the Midlands Regional Finals in Nottingham. Again they performed brilliantly and won the accolade of Midlands Champions. In May they had the fantastic opportunity of taking part in the National Finals on the ground of the Premier League Champions – The King Power Stadium, Leicester. Mr Cheadle’s lads reached and won the semi-finals and in the final lost only on penalties after extra time to a team from Jersey. We can genuinely say St. Teresa’s has the best u11s football team in England – Well done boys. What an achievement!!

Netball- OUR HARD WORKING NETBALLERS – Miss Evans’ Netball Club has been very busy this year, with many children attending weekly practise sessions. We have continued to use the Michelin Sports Centre during the Winter months, which has allowed the children to train despite poor weather conditions outside! We have had 2 teams this year- a Sevens team and a High 5 teams. Both teams competed well in the Town tournaments and benefited from their experience.

Athletics-CITY CHAMPS AGAIN!- After successfully introducing Indoor Athletics to the children for the first time last year, Mr Cheadle entered the South Stoke Sports hall Tournament again. This proved to be an exciting event, as our Indoor Athletics team achieved 1st place yet again The children then had the experience of representing South Stoke in the County Finals, held in Cannock. The team spirit and sense of determination from the children was incredible and the team finished in a creditable 5th place. The outdoor Athletics team compete in the forthcoming Town Sports with over 40 children taking part. Hopefully we will be as successful as last year.

Swimming- OUR SWIMMERS STRIKE GOLD-Unfortunately there was no Town Gala this year due to the unavailability of Fenton Baths. However five of our children were selected for the Town Team that successfully competed in the City Gala in June. Congratulations to Poppy Higgins, Jessica Mellor, Elliot Smith, Edward Gething and Dominic Smith who all won Gold and Silver medals. Their contribution led to Stoke Town winning the Girls’ Trophy and Runners-up in the Boys’ Competition.

Cross Country- A GREAT SEASON AGAIN- This year has yet again been a super Cross Country season for Mrs Dale and her runners! In the Stoke Town Cross Country League, the boys won and the girls came runners up, meaning St Teresa’s won overall. In the City Cross Country competitions held at Birches Head and Trentham High, both our Year 3 and 4 teams (who won all their races), and Year 5 and 6 teams (Will Groves 1st) qualified for the County Finals at Keele University. And the great news is the Y3 Girls, Y4 Girls and the Y6 Boys won the County team championships and in addition we had individual County Champions in Will Groves(Y6) and Megan Sullivan(Y3). Jack Griffiths(Y6) and Martha MCGuigan(Y3) achieved individual runners up – a fantastic achievement by all our XC runners.

Cricket-COUNTY FINALISTS FOR THEIRST TIME- We took two teams to the City Kwik Cricket Finals in June and for the first time and Mr Holloway’s ‘A’ Team became City Champions. As we go to press the team await to take part in the County Finals in Cannock – We wish them good luck.

Thank you to all members of staff who have given up their time and given the children the opportunity to shine as well as the families who accompany children to sports fixtures and training sessions- we couldn’t do it without you!
